An earthquake of moderate intensity shook Kashmir today
Tuesday, 16th June 2020
An earthquake of moderate intensity shook the Heaven on Earth- Kashmir this Tuesday but as per reports from concerned authorities no news of damage to life and property has been received yet. The earthquake measured 5.8 on Richter scale and took place around 7.00 am on the morning of Tuesday. Further details presented about this earthquake are as follows:
- Tajikistan had been earthquake’s epicentre
- The depth of the earthquake’s epicentre was about 100 km into the earth’s surface
- The latitudinal extent of the earthquake was 37.7 degrees north and the longitudinal extent was 72.3 degrees east.
Earthquakes in Kashmir are nothing new. Seismologically Kashmir falls in a high risk zone and many a times such earthquakes have given rude jolts to the state. In the year 2005 Kashmir witnessed one of the worst earthquakes that had killed more than 80, 000 people.
