A couple serving as Chief Medical Officers of the Southern and Eastern Naval Commands will be the first ever time in the Indian Navy’s history.
Arti Sarin is the Kochi-based Southern Naval Command’s Command Medical Officer and her husband Surgeon Rear Admiral CS Naidu is currently the Command Medical Officer, Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam.
This is the first time that a couple is serving as Chief Medical Officers of two commands together in the Indian Navy’s history, said Defense sources.
A woman holding a position of CMO in the Southern Naval Command is also the first time ever.
Arti graduated from Armed Forces Medical College and had studied at Visakhapatnam’s Timpany School. In December 1985, she was appointed into the Armed Forces Medical Services. She holds MD in Radiology at AFMC Pune as well as in DNB Radiation Oncology from the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. From University of Pittsburgh, USA, she has specialized in Gamma Knife Surgery, a defense release stated. Completing the tenures at Naval Science & Technology Laboratories Visakhapatnam, she has also served at Port Blair’s naval hospitals along with Kochi’s, Mumbai’s and Visakhapatnam’s.
She has been leading the Southern Naval Command from 20th February and helping Kochi tackle coronavirus outbreak since then.
