Saroj Khan died of cardiac arrest on Friday in Mumbai at the age of 71. She was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital in Mumbai on June 20th due to difficulty in breathing. When she was tested for Covid-19, the report showed negative. Her daughter confirmed her death and tributes poured in from bollywood celebrities on Twitter.
Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “Prayers. Haath jude hain, man ashaant”.
Akshay Kumar on Twitter, wrote, “Woke up to the sad news that legendary choreographer #SarojKhan ji is no more. She made dance look easy almost like anybody can dance, a huge loss for the industry. May her soul rest in peace”.
“An era is over. RIP Saroj Khan”, Hansal Mehta wrote.
“Rest in peace Saroj ji”, tweeted Manoj Bajpayee.
“Rest in peace Sarojji.. u were an inspiration to many, myself included. Thank you for the songs. #SarojKhan”, wrote Farah Khan.
Some of the celebs shared her picture while paying tribute to her.
“Woke up to the news that Saroj Khan is no more with us, Most talented trend setter choreographer of Film industry, My condolences to her family members & admirers. We will miss you. #RIP”, Madhur Bhandarkar wrote.
Nimrat Kaur wrote along with some pictures with her, “Saroj ji’s name introduced the word ‘choreographer’ to my life. A genius who immortalised stars and the music that defined an era with her iconic work. May her loved ones find strength and courage at this terrible hour. There’ll never be another...#RIPSarojKhan #Legend #Masterji”.
Over 2,000 songs have been choreographed by the veteran Saroj Khan during her career. The list includes Chane Ke Khet Mein, Dola Re Dola, Dhak Dhak and Kaate Nahin Kat Te.
She has won national award for choreographing many of her songs like Dola re Dola.
