Three trusts related to Gandhi family are going to be investigated by the government for committing offence in financial matters, the centre said. An inter- ministerial committee has been formed by the Home Ministry to carry on with investigations into alleged foreign donation rules and income tax violation by Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust, spokesperson of the ministry wrote on Twitter this morning.

Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Income Tax Act and Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act will be focused in the investigation, tweeted Home Ministry.

Enforcement Directorate’s special director will head the committee, it said.

“PMNRF, meant to help people in distress, was donating money to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation in UPA years. Who sat on the PMNRF board? Smt. Sonia Gandhi Who chairs RGF? Smt. Sonia Gandhi. Totally reprehensible, disregarding ethics, processes and not bothering about transparency”, JP Nadda, BJP president, had said last week.

Rajiv Gandhi Foundation consists of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram and the chief is Sonia Gandhi, Congress president.

A BJP statement said, “Budget speech document from 1991. Page 16, Para 57. Manmohan Singh gave 100 crore to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, 20 crore a year for five years”.
