Jagdeep; the Soorma Bhopali actor dies at 81 years

Jagdeep, the old stager of Indian Cinema breathed his last this Wednesday in the city of Mumbai. The news of his death was confirmed by Actor Nasirr Khan. He was 81 years of age at the time of his death and died of age-related complications. Jagdeep is well remembered for his many comic roles that made people laugh their lungs out.
We have seen Jagdeep perform on the Silver Screen in movies like Sholay, Andaz Apna Apna, Purana Mandir, Qurbani, Shehenshah.
The character of soorma bhopali he played in the movie ‘Sholay’ is quite memorable. The catch dialogue “Mera naam Soorma Bhopali aise hi nahin hai” made him quite popular among his fans. In the comedy movie ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ he played the role of Bankelal; Salman Khan’s father.
Jagdeep’s directorial venture was the movie ‘Soorma Bhopali’ which was but a kind of spin on the character of Soorma Bhopali he had played in ‘Sholay’. Cameo appearances were made in the movie by actors like Rekha, Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan.
Jagdeep had started his filmy career when he was still a child. He had acted as a child artist in movies like Aar Paar (by Guru Dutt), Do Bigha Zameen (by Bimal Roy) and Munna (by Ka Abbas). His career spanned across a long 6 decades and he had acted in more than 400 movies.
The funeral rites of Jagdeep will be undertaken on this Thursday in Mumbai’s Shia Kabrastan.
