The first IAS Officer of the state dies of COVID-19

First election commissioner of Maharashtra, Neela Satyanarayan dies of COVID-19 infection at the 72. She breathed her last in Mumbai’s Seven Hills Hospital on Thursday. She was a renowned poet as well as an author too. She is the first among IAS officers in Maharashtra to die of Coronavirus infection. She was from the 1972 IAS Officer batch.
She was born on the 5th of February, 1949. She had been the state’s Revenue Department’s additional Chief Secretary. She retired from the post in 2009 after she was honored with the designation of chief election commissioner of the state of Maharashtra. She retired from that post on July 5th, 2014.
Her diverse range of talent included composing music for a couple of Hindi as well as Marathi films, writing books and the like. She is known to have written nearly 150 poems in her lifetime.
The state of Maharashtra is the most badly hit state with regard to the Coronavirus pandemic. The total number of coronavirus cases in the state stands at 2.75 lakhs and the death toll stands at 10, 928 lakhs. On Wednesday 7975 new cases of coronavirus and 223 new deaths were recorded in the state. As per predictions, the state is likely to experience a massive surge in cases by this weekend and it is thought that the 3 lakh mark may be crossed!
