The chariots will not be dismantled
Friday, 24th July 2020
This year’s chariots used for Rath Yatra at Puri will not be dismantled like the previous years. Every year, new ones are created for the coming year’s procession.
Dr Krishan Kumar, Chief administrator of Sri Jagannath temple said, “A proposal to preserve the chariots was adopted at the joint meeting of the temple managing committee and Chhatisha Nijog”.
Because of the pandemic, devotees weren’t allowed on both the days-June 23rd and July 4th. The chariots were taken to Gundicha temple and pulled back. The three chariots will be preserved as monument as there were no devotees for the Rath Yatra this year.
Normally, the chariots will be dismantled and the timber will be used for cooking the ‘Kotha Bhoga’, and the new chariots will be constructed for the next year’s Yatra.
