Monday, 27th July 2020
According to the health ministry data, 4,85,114 cases are currently active and the death toll stands at 32,771. 49,931 new cases were reported from Sunday to Monday morning with which the total number of cases exceeded 14 lakh.
The rate of recovery is 63.92% and 9,17,567 have already been discharged after recovery.
Though the death rate is lesser in India than many other countries, the “hazards are far from over”, the Prime Minister said on Mann Ki Baat. He also emphasized on the importance of social distancing and wearing face coverings.
“At many places, it is spreading fast... We have to bear in mind that Corona is as fatal today as it was in the beginning – that’s why we have to be fully cautious”, PM cautioned.
Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh are expected to become fresh hotspots of the virus according to the data. The main reason behind this is increasing number of cases, higher positivity rates and lesser testing.
The number of cases in worst-affected states is as follows:
Maharashtra: 375,799
Tamil Nadu: 213,723
Delhi: 130,606
Andhra Pradesh: 96,298
Karnataka: 96,141
West Bengal: 58,718
Bihar: 39,176
The tally now stands at over 16 million cases with a death toll of 647,928 globally, according to the data from Johns Hopkins University.
