Google is one of the most popular search engines and any information that you need to gather can be searched online on Google. The popularity of this Search Engine is so immense that from a proper noun the word ‘Google’ has shifted to a verb form too. The use of ‘Google’ as a verb started since 2006 when it was included in the Oxford English Dictionary for the first time.

Now, when the Coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc worldwide most aggressively, all organizations, individuals and even administrations should take to Google while planning for a short-term, uncertain future.

After all, a coronavirus vaccine will definitely not be available prior to the year’s end and possibilities are that the first coronavirus vaccines may not be completely effective or may require several booster shots. Also, it is pretty evident that not all would have access to the vaccine as soon as it arrives into the market and there’ll perhaps be a huge crowd pushing and jostling with the ‘Me First’ cry. Google, the search engine giant, knows about all these facts and hence has decided that its complete workforce consisting of nearly 200, 000 employees will not return to work at office before the July of 2021. This is meant for all Google employees across the globe- both at its Mountain View head office in California as well as at its other offices in other countries like UK, US, Brazil, India. Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported this story to all. Subsequently, Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai messaged to the employees informing them about this decision.

“I hope this will offer the flexibility you need to balance work with taking care of yourselves and your loved ones over the next 12 months,” said he.

Google has no doubt taken the right step in view of the current situation. There are employees who need to or would want to travel to their offices in public transports like Metros, Buses, Suburban trains etc. Also, the ACs running within the office space may not have the right air circulatory cycles and filters to ward off the virus and the results of these could be life-taking in case the employees needed to share the workspace at the time of this pandemic.

The decision taken by Google aims at offering flexibility and stability to the employees. In such a situation we all actually need to make plans for the present times and also the Post-COVID times. The former will help us get by while the latter will allow us to put many things off.
