India to boost its diplomatic strength

India is going to boost its diplomatic presence as UN Security Council’s non-permanent member from January 2021. There is going to be an additional deputy permanent representative (DPR) as well as counselor appointed to look into the UNSC matters. India’s monthly stints at the UNSC will be reviewed by External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
Joint Secretary (Central and West Africa), R Ravindran of 1999 batch Indian Foreign Service is going to join as an equivalent rank of DPR at New York’s Indian Permanent Mission to United Nations. The post of Counsellor (UNSC) will be taken over by Pratik Mathur from 2007, Deputy Secretary (PMO).
TS Tirumurti heads the mission DPR currently is Nagaraj Naidu. Before 15th of September, 2020 when the 75th UN General Assembly commences, the officers will be joining the group.
India will follow the 5S’, said PM Modi. They are ‘Samman (Respect), Samvad (Dialogue), Sahyog (Cooperation), Shanti (global peace) and Samriddhi (global prosperity)’. The goal will be “New Orientation of a Reformed Multilateral System”.
A senior government officer said, “Our understanding is that India got these many votes as its forces stood up to China at Galwan in East Ladakh in June. Although only 129 votes are required, India got additional votes for having the capacity to fight for its territory”, with reference to the clash that occurred at Galwan on 15th of June.
