Parliament Annexe Building in flames
Tuesday, 18th August 2020
Part of the 6th floor of Parliament Annexe Building was in flames this Monday morning. The fire is said to have been caused by the incident of a short circuit but luckily soon the flames were doused and the fire was put out.
Meanwhile prior to the Monsoon Session the secretariat of the Rajya Sabha was working across the past 2 weeks and overtime to check if the necessary arrangements were up to the mark for testing, for rehearsal and for final inspection by the coming week. The Upper House was likely to have additional electrical installations – like large-sized screens, audio consoles fitted within the galleries, UV germicidal irradiation, special connective cables running between the two-parliament houses for the effective transmission of the audio-visual signals – within the galleries as well as chambers.
The sitting section of both the Parliament Houses; namely Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, have been closed down since the month of March, days prior to the announcement of countrywide lockdown by PM Modi. The adjournment of budget session dated March 23rd took place too.
