India is not ready for large scale vaccine trials

Thursday, 8th October 2020

Laboratories Ltd to carry out a large scale research in the country in order to evaluate the Russia-made Sputnik-V Covid-19 vaccine and has instead asked the lab to first go for a smaller sized trial for the same.

Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) experts have put forth their recommendations saying that the stats on immunogenicity and safety from the early stages of the research conducted overseas is meager and comes without inputs with regard to the Indian participants.

India's step turns out to be a setback for the plan of Russia with regard to rolling out covid vaccine even prior to the full trials indicating the actual results.

India is very likely to beat the US over the forthcoming several weeks as the country that leads globally in terms of the highest number of covid cases.

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), is handling the marketing of the Sputnik V, and Dr Reddy's Labs had declared last month that they are partnering with the RDIF to conduct clinical trials as well as distribute the covid vaccine in the country.
