Mumbai Indians climbed their way back to the top spot in the points table after beating Delhi Capitals by five wickets in Sunday’s match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

Team captain Rohit Sharma was content after the victory and said that it gives them “a lot of confidence” having received those “crucial two points” in the post-match presentation ceremony.

The two half-centuries made by Suryakumar Yadav (53, 32b, 6x4, 1x6) and Quinton de Kock (53, 36b, 4x4, 3x6), were crucial for the team and went a long way in helping the Mumbai Indians in chasing the target set by Delhi Capitals at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Earlier in the innings, the winning team had curtailed Delhi’s score after they made 164/4 even though their opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan played through the innings making an unbeaten 69 (52b, 6x4, 1x6) and rival team captain skipper Shreyas Iyer making 42 (33b, 5x4).

They later chased down the target with two balls to spare. The two fours in the final over by Krunal Pandya settled matters for them. Although their skipper got out early on, the middle-order pulled them through.

Talking about the team’s performance that day, Sharma also said that they were “clinical with the bat, but not so much towards the end”. He added that they require a few set batsmen to have a clean finish to the game, but they lost some set batsmen that day and that is something they will need to “tighten up”.

Having said that, he also congratulated themselves on batting really well, something that has given them the confidence that they can chase any score.

Four times champion, Mumbai Indians beat Delhi bagging their fifth victory this season. Having scored ten points from seven matches, they reclaimed the top spot on Sunday.

The team has displayed some stellar performances this season which is in stark contrast to their losses back in 2014 when they had lost five matches in a row before the tournament was shifted to India.

They will play against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday.
