The Congress party in the state of Himachal Pradesh has warned that they might soon start protesting on the issue of the alleged taking away of the inaugural plaque of their party chief, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi from the newly built Atal Tunnel.
The Atal Tunnel is a strategically built tunnel connecting Manali hill town of Himachal Pradesh to the Lahaul & Spiti Valleys. This tunnel, as reported, can lessen the travel time to Leh-Ladakh by nearly 5 hours. Recently; i.e. around the 3rd of October PM Modi had inaugurated this tunnel.
The Congress party leaders in the state of Himachal Pradesh have brought the allegation that the name of Mrs. Sonia Gandhi has been removed from the tunnel’s foundation plaque prior to the inauguration ceremony.
Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Party president of the state has written a letter to CM Jairam Thakur, alerting him of an imminent protest outbreak
"If the missing foundation stone is not re-installed, Congress will hold a state-wide agitation against the government," wrote Mr. Rathore.
"This (removing the stone) is an undemocratic, unconventional and illegal step ever," Rathore added in his letter.
The Congress while putting their point across said that Mrs. Sonia Gandhi had initiated the project of the Rohtang Tunnel on June 28th, 2010 by laying its foundation at Manali’s Dhoondi.
Two party leaders, Hari Chand Sharma and Gialchhen Thakur have lodged a police complaint in Manali and Keylong demanding probe into the plaque’s disappearance.
At the time of the tunnel’s inauguration PM Narendra Modi ji made use of this opportunity to take multiple swipes at the Congress through hints, stating the defense infrastructure was weakened during the Congress rule.
