Learn the float test for egg quality checks
Tuesday, 27th October 2020
The eggs that you have bought recently may appear to be perfect from outside. Only when the eggs are broken or boiled, you may realize that they aren’t as good in terms of quality as you thought them to be. The official Twitter account of MyGovIndia had recently shared a simple hack for finding out about the egg quality. A very easy float test can be the way out. Here’s how:
· Take a glassful of water
· Immerse the egg into the water
· See the egg’s position. A fresh egg will sink and sit at the glass’s base, width-wise. Slightly older eggs with sit at the glass’s base but at one end. A rotten egg comes to the surface and floats atop the water’s surface. Rotten egg is full of air pockets and that makes it lighter than a fresh egg.
It is always advised that you consume only fresh eggs, and never the ones that are a bit older or are rotten. Consuming eggs that are of poor quality puts you at the risk of getting the Salmonella infection, as per the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Salmonella is actually a kind of bacteria that leads to food poisoning. Symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain indicate that you are infected.
So when you bring eggs home the next time, try this float test to determine their quality prior to consuming.
