Friday, 30th October 2020

To extend financial help to the Tamil film industry members whose earnings received a massive blow during the covid-19 pandemic, directors like Jayendra Panchapakesan and Mani Ratnam have thought of a very unique solution. These filmmakers have decided to craft an anthology for the Netflix titled as Navarasa and the earnings made by this movie will be sent to all who have suffered a pandemic-induced unemployment during the period of lockdown.

Navarasa is likely to be a joint directorial venture of some of the best directors who are to make nine different short films symbolizing the nine different rasas (emotions). Directors like Gautham Vasudev Menon, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthick Naren, Karthik Subbaraj, Halitha Shameem, Rathindran Prasad, Ponram, and K.V. Anand are likely to work in this anthology. Even, actor Arvind Swamy is likely to debut with his first directorial presentation in this anthology.

Apart from these directors, nearly 40 renowned actors and 100s of film technicians will be working on this project.

Netflix has recently confirmed that the crew and cast of this anthology are likely to offer their services to the anthology making pro-bono.

“We have always loved to brainstorm and come up with unique ideas to raise money for deserving causes. This time the brainstorming was for the cause of our own industry, to soothe and try and alleviate to some extent the agony of our people who had no work for months. The idea of making short films and raising money through them for this cause was born on one such brainstorming evening. We were thrilled when the idea resonated well instantly with leading directors, actors and technicians of the industry that we approached. The idea of Navarasa was a spark when we discussed it and the industry has come together to make it glow, give it soul and make it count for its people,” Jayendra Panchapakesan and Mani Ratnam said in a statement.
