Another rape incident reported after Hathras
Friday, 30th October 2020
Last week a woman aged 21 years; a patient of Tuberculosis, was raped inside the ICU of Gurgaon’s Fortis Hospital, said the police. The patient penned down a note about her alleged sexual attack and passed it on to her dad, also signaling to let out the story of her ordeal on this Tuesday after she managed to regain consciousness at the end of 6 days. The woman, according to the details of an FIR lodged at the Sushant Lok Police Station, was hospitalized on the 21st of October, after she complained of breathing trouble and was put on ventilator.
Police is on the lookout for Vikas - the accused who has been named by the victim. She, as per the information given to the police by her dad, had been assaulted sexually between 21st October and 27th October. The family of the woman has further requested that a medical examination of the woman must be conducted at some reputed government hospital.
After the filing of the FIR, policemen reached the hospital to record the woman’s statement but the doctors at the hospital stopped them saying that she cannot speak due to her poor health status.
Police is trying to gather all relevant info about Vikas; i.e. mainly whether he works at the hospital or not.
"We are probing the case. We are trying to find out if Vikas worked at the hospital. The woman's parents are not aware of it. We would be able to get clarity once we get a statement from the patient. We are probing the CCTV footage from the hospital to get clues," Maksood Ahmad, a police officer, told the reporters.
"Six days after admission, the patient alleged that she has been violated on the day of admission. Post her complaint, we immediately informed the police. We have a zero-tolerance policy in such situations and are extending full cooperation and support including entire CCTV footage to the police," said a spokesperson from the Fortis Hospital.
This latest incident has occurred many weeks after the Hathras gang rape incident that had triggered countywide anger.
