RJD Leader Holds Congress Responsible for Bihar Poll Performance

Shivanand Tiwari, a senior RJD Leader blames Congress for the Bihar Elections Results

Monday, 16th November 2020

A senior Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) leader Shivanand Tiwari casting aspersion on the Congress on Sunday, said it was a foible in the “Mahagathbandhan” and was solely responsible for their defeat in the recently held Bihar Assembly election.

Tiwari also launched into a scathing attack on leader Rahul Gandhi saying he made only three appearances during the campaigns and Priyanka (Gandhi Vadhra) made none. He said, the Congress proved to be a restraint for the “Mahagathbandhan” and although they fought for 70 seats, they “didn’t hold even 70 public rallies”.

The “Mahagathbandhan” or Grand Alliance which is an amalgamation of the RJD, Congress and other Left parties managed to 110 seats out of the 243-member Bihar Assembly and got held back by only 12 seats.

While the RJD single handedly surfaced as the largest party in the state having won 75 seats, the Left had everyone surprised winning 17 seats when they contested on only 29 seats. The Congress however, although contested 70 out of the 243 seats, they managed to emerge victorious in only 19 of them.

Tiwari also added that this was not the scenario in just the state of Bihar. A similar trend has been evident in several other states where the party has been concentrating on fighting for the maximum number of seats but are failing miserably at winning the maximum possible number of seats. It is a food for thought for the Congress, said Tiwari.

While the “elections were in full swing” in Bihar, as per Tiwari, Rahul Gandhi was busy “having a picnic” in Priyanka’s house in Shimla and added that this was no way to run a party as all they were doing was aiding the BJP.

Congress however, had their own version of the entire episode and said that the reason for their despondent poll performance was the delay in finalising seat-sharing for the Bihar elections.

Senior party leader Tariq Anwar said such a performance by the Congress party was certainly not as per expectations and could be used as a learning experience for upcoming assembly polls.
