Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has made a contribution of Rs 1.11 lakh towards the construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya. He wrote he was sending the cheque addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Singh wrote in his letter that he had no information about how to go about making the donation, where and which bank, and hence he, along with the letter, was sending his cheque of Rs 1,11,111 in favor of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust as his contribution for the Ram Temple construction.
The 44-day fundraising campaign for the Ram temple at Ayodhya commenced on January 15 by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. It has been ever since accompanied by armed rallies.
Mr. Singh also wrote in his jibe to the PM, that “Carrying lathis and swords and raising slogans to incite a community cannot be a part of any religious ceremony. Such developments cannot be part of the Hindu religion”.
He continued, due to this goings-on in the country, there have been “three untoward incidents” in MP which have “damaged the social harmony in the society”.
Urging the prime minister to put his foot down on the matter, he added, “You are aware that other religious communities are not against temple construction," he wrote. "So as the country's Prime Minister, you direct states to stop fundraising processions where people carrying arms are inciting other communities”.
Last Friday, Indian President, Ram Nath Kovind was known to have made a donation of Rs 5, 00,100 for the Ram Temple construction in Ayodhya, after the nationwide fund collection medium had started.
