VK Sasikala, Ex- AIADMK leader will be released from the Parappana Agrahara Prison of Bengaluru today after being in prison for 4 consecutive years due to a corruption case she got involved in. She had been the ex-aide of the late CM of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa. Post-release from jail she’ll be in a hospital where she’ll be treated for the covid-19 infection she has contracted.
An official from the prison told the news agency PTI that VK Sasikala, aged 63 years will be freed today, and also, all the relevant formalities shall be fulfilled at the hospital. It is still not clear when actually her discharge from the hospital will take place.
Ms. Sasikala got infected with the covid-19 virus on the 20th of January, many days ahead of the scheduled release. Her admission was first done at the Bowring Hospital of Bengaluru. Later she was moved to Victoria hospital.
She was suffering from the symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory disease, a common feature of COVID-19, but her previous Rapid Antigen as well as the RT-PCR assessment reports turned out to be negative. However, on the basis of suspicion, tests were re-conducted last Thursday, which showed that she is infected with the deadly virus. Her nephew and the General Secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, TTV Dhinakaran arrived at Bengaluru after learning the details of her illness and later told the reporters that her condition was stable.
"I got reliable information that her health is stable. Doctors are looking after her very well. Good care is given. They are monitoring her," Mr. Dhinakaran stated last week.
On this Monday, he informed that the decision for discharging her is likely to be taken post consultation with doctors.
Ms. Sasikala was imprisoned in the year 2017 in the disproportionate assets case worth Rs 66 crore and she was in jail for 4 years at a stretch.
