What is the current status of the covid pandemic in India? Read on to get the facts

With 16,838 fresh coronavirus cases recorded, the total number of cases in the country has reached 1,11,73,761. The death toll is now at 1,57,548 after 113 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours while the number of recoveries has gone up to 1,08,39,894 according to data released by the Union health ministry on Friday.

As the second phase of vaccination drive in the country enters its fourth day, nearly 17.14 lakh people have received their first shots, keeping India’s vaccination curve well on the road of improvement.

Private centres are witnessing huge influxes of people coming for vaccinations. In Delhi, with leading hospitals like Apollo and Max vaccinating nearly 600 people each day, the numbers have shot up steeply.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands have recorded a total of 5,024 coronavirus cases with two positive cases in the past 24 hours. However, no new case of death was reported within that time period maintaining the total number of fatalities at 62 and the total recoveries here were 4,9,53. They now have 9 active cases and 7,779 health and frontline workers have been vaccinated.

Telangana has recorded a total of 2.99 lakh coronavirus cases with 166 positive cases in the past 24 hours and 2 new cases of death was reported within that time period taking the total number of fatalities at 1,639 and the total recoveries here were 2,95,970. They now have 1,963 active cases.

Arunachal Pradesh did not report any fresh case of Covid-19 in the last 48 hours according to the state health department. Their total coronavirus tally stands at 16,838.

In Maharashtra, Thane district alone has recorded a total of 2,67,630 cases with 720 new cases recorded in the past 24 hours. Their death toll due to Covid-19 stands at 6,290 and the number of patients recovered is 2,54,578, making the recovery rate 95.12%.

The Serum Institute of India has written to the PMO requesting some alterations in the existing drug regulatory system. This also includes permission to manufacture and stockpile non-COVID vaccines while undergoing clinical trial.
