India records 17,921 new COVID-19 cases, 133 deaths in last 24 hours

India on this Wednesday recorded nearly 17,921 new covid cases across the span of the past 24 hours, as per the Wednesday morning updates from the Union health ministry. With these new figures, the nationwide tally leaped to 11,262,707. The active covid cases, which have witnessed a downward curve since yesterday, dropped by 2,864 more only to stand at 1,84,598.

 

The data from the health ministry further revealed that about 133 people succumbed to the infection, thereby taking the death toll to about 1,58,063. On this Tuesday, the country recorded as many as 15,388 covid cases.

 

The recent spike in the covid-19 case numbers has actually been accelerated by the six states of the country, including the worst-hit state of Maharashtra. On this Tuesday, Maharashtra recorded 9,927 new cases of Covid and about 56 new deaths. The cumulative covid case count in the state stands at about 22,38,398.

 

Meanwhile, our country India reached a vital milestone on this Tuesday when the vaccine doses meted out in the country went past the 2.40 crore mark. As per the data of the health ministry, 10,28,911 residents of the country were vaccinated until the evening of Tuesday.

 

According to the data furnished by the provisional report, during the daytime nearly 7,98,354 beneficiaries got their first vaccine dose and about 2,30,557 healthcare and frontline staffs got their second vaccine dose, said the ministry.

 

Over two million Covid vaccine doses were meted out on the 8th of March, the highest diurnal figures so far.

 

 Covid-19 vaccination’s first phase has started from the 1st of March for all those who are beyond the age of 60 years and for the people who are aged at 45 years and even over 45 with the specified co-morbid health conditions.

 

This Tuesday, the Centre had advised all the states and the union territories of the country to register as well as activate all the private facilities and offer adequate Covid vaccine stocks to the people for the period of 15-28 days so that the people can provide e-open slots to the citizens for the covid vaccination drive.

 

The direction for this was issued through a high-level meetings for reviewing chaired by the Principal Secretary, PK Misra to the PM, as per the statement of the health ministry.
