Bollywood actor Parineeti Chopra took to social media on Saturday making an appeal to the management of popular food delivery service Zomato to make a probe into the recent case involving one of their delivery personnel.
Chopra expressed her concerns over the plight of the Zomato delivery executive who has been accused of physically assaulting a lady client. She wrote on her social media handle that the woman in question must be made to pay a price in case the executive is found innocent.
She urged Zomato to ‘find and publicly report the truth’ and wrote on her Twitter handle, “If the gentleman is innocent (and I believe he is), PLEASE help us penalize the woman in question. This is inhuman, shameful, and heartbreaking ...Please let me know how I can help”.
Hitesha Chandranee, a resident of Bengaluru posted a video on March 9 where she alleged that a Zomato delivery executive had “hit” her and left her bleeding. She stated that he then “ran off”. On March 10, the executive, Kamaraj was arrested on the basis of this complaint but was later released on bail.
Kamaraj refused all charges levied against him and said that he had pushed the lady in “self-defense”.
CEO and co-founder of Zomato Deepinder Goyal said on Saturday that the company is extending “all possible support” to both parties- the delivery partner as well as the alleged victim- in order to ensure that “both sides of the story come to light.”
Goyal said in a statement, “We are in constant touch with Hitesha, covering her medical expenses, and helping her with the proceeding. We are also in touch with Kamaraj.” He said they are following due process “in the spirit of fairness.”
