A meeting between the Trinamool Congress parliamentary delegation and the Election Commission of India is scheduled at 12 noon in the national capital over conducting free and fair polls in the upcoming Assembly election. The party will be represented by Saugata Roy, Md Nadimul Haque, Pratima Mondal, Mahua Moitra, and Yashwant Sinha, who has recently joined TMC and has been given the position of Vice-President.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday, the BJP’s “gas balloon” had become an “election cash balloon”. In an explicit verbal lashing, she said the BJP is impoverished of ideas of their own and are resorting to filching slogans like “paribartan” from the Trinamool Congress. She said they “could not think up anything new” and accused them of making hollow promises fraught with “lies and deceit”.

The brawl between TMC and BJP in Nandigram took a turn for the worse as violence broke out between party workers on Wednesday. Several were reported injured after the incident and additional forces had to be rushed to bring the situation under control. TMC approached the EC for intervention against “those who incited violence.”
