Anil Deshmukh approaches CM Uddhav Thackeray in order to free himself from the corruption allegations
Thursday, 25th March 2021
Facing heat from the Opposition, Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh wrote a letter to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, asking to investigate the allegations of corruption that have been leveled against him by former Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh. Recently, Deshmukh has been accused of being knee-deep in corrupt practices by Param Bir Singh and that has actually led to Home Minister to lose his cool.
The contents of the letter were posted by Deshmukh on his social media post. It was written in Marathi and upon translation, it read, “I have asked the chief minister to inquire into the allegations made against me by (former Police Commissioner of Mumbai) Param Bir Singh to bring out the truth.”
He added, “If the chief minister inquires the matter, I would welcome it. Satyamev Jayate.” In another Twitter post, he wrote that this would help separate wheat from the chaff.
Param Bir Singh had also written a letter to the chief minister of Mumbai, Uddhav Thackeray last week after being removed from his post for the grave dereliction of duty in the Mukesh Ambani security scare, in which he had accused Deshmukh of malpractices including a “money collection scheme” through his team of police officers.
Detailing further, Singh had mentioned that Deshmukh have had one of his officers, Sachin Waze- who was arrested in the Ambani threat case- collect Rs 100 crore each month from different quarters in the city through extortion.
Although all these accusations were denied outright by Deshmukh, they stirred a storm in the Maharashtrian political scenario, causing people to view the political climate of Maharashtra with doubt and apprehensions. It brought together various party leaders including The constituents of Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi Alliance (MVA) - Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Congress, to find a solution to the current crisis.

The main manager of crises in the MVA, NCP chief Sharad Pawar stood his ground and supported party colleague Deshmukh. Other leaders of the NCP also proscribed any rumour of Deshmukh's resignation.
The whole fiasco however turned out to give fodder to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) cause, which lost just no time in attacking the Thackeray government, demanding the resignation of Anil Deshmukh.
Former chief minister of Maharashtra and no leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis is leading the attack. He also had a meeting with the Union home secretary and Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
In the meantime, a senior MVA leader has said that the government has decided on forming a judicial commission that will look into the Deshmukh matter and will thus delve deep into it to find what the truth actually is.
