India has logged more than one lakh fresh cases of coronavirus infection yesterday, the highest single day spike ever since the pandemic began last year. The total case tally in the country now stands at 1, 25, 89,067.

The grim scenario in the country makes it the only country after the United States to have crossed the single day 1-lakh mark in terms of the covid case load.

Monday’s data related to Covid case load released by the Union Ministry of Health showed that the figures surpassed the earlier highest single day spike of covid cases that was recorded on September 17 last year of 97,894 cases.

With 478 deaths due to Covid-19 infection reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll has gone up to as much as 1,65,101.

The country has been witnessing a steady rise in its Covid-19 graph for the past 26 days. According to the data updated at 8am on this Monday, active coronavirus cases have increased to 7,41,830, which comprises of 5.89 per cent of the total covid infections in the country. The recovery rate on the other hand has further dropped to 92.80 per cent.

The rapid surge in Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra has led to the state government calling for more stringent restrictive measures. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has been compelled to announce restrictions similar to a lockdown throughout the state from 8am on Monday. On weekends there will be an imposition of complete lockdown. The state continues to account for the maximum caseload of the country’s total coronavirus count.

In the state of Karnataka, 4,553 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported taking the total number of active covid cases up to 39,092 cases. The state has been showing a steady upward trend in the number of new cases.

The RT-PCR test has been made compulsory by the Rajasthan government for people entering and going out of the state. The state government has also announced that Classes 1 to 9 will remain suspended as of now.

The United States of America, although is inoculating over 3 million people every day against Covid-19, the country still remains far from the road to beating the virus and being in a safe zone. What has added to their woes is the plant which had recently got involved in ruining millions of doses of vaccines. The continued threat of new variants of the virus is also decelerating matters.

The US has till date administered over 165 million doses of the covid vaccine to its people and distributed more than 208 million vaccines, as per the CDC.
