Charges of corruption against Abhishek Banerjee the nephew of West Bengal CM, Mamata Banerjee, whose austere demeanor is known to all, consisted largely of the verbal political duel, days preceding the Bengal assembly election’s third phase. The charges from the BJP were spearheaded and elaborated by two notable political figures- Suvendu Adhikari & Amit Malviya. The former is the protégé-turned-archrival of Miss Mamata Banerjee while the latter is the chief of the IT Cell of BJP political party. The two accused the W.B CM and the government led by her of being in close relation with Abhishek.

Mr. Suvendu Adhikari, who came out of the Trinamool Congress Party in the month of December, after having issues with the rapid rise of Abhishek Banerjee, said: "Rs 900 crore has reached the nephew in the last 10-12 years by an individual who has been arrested by the police today. Coal mafia Anup Manjhi runs this racket."

Abhishek Banerjee, he opined, is closely connected to Ganesh Bagadia, who carries serious charges against himself. "Bikash Mishra, another ally of nephew, has already been arrested. Police officers and IPS officers are all embroiled," added Adhikari.

"It would be naive to believe that Abhishek Banerjee was presiding over the syndicates and Mamata Banerjee did not know about it. Thus, it's a question of morality and agencies investigating matters to its logical end, which will be done," stated Amit Malviya.

In response to all the above charges, CM Mamata Banerjee tried to bring forth allegations against PM Modi and Union Home Minister of making use of the central agencies for feeding fat their political vendetta.

"Modi is syndicate number 1 and Amit Shah is syndicate number 2. They are sending agencies to Abhishek's house, Sudip's house and to the house of Stalin's daughter... They are continuously changing police officers," stated the CM during a political rally held in Howrah today, referring to the raids against the chief of the DMK.

The BJP party has brought the charges of coal scam involvement against Abhishek Banerjee, the CM’s nephew and in this regard, the CBI has already interrogated his wife.

According to the charges brought forth, regular kickbacks were paid by the coal mafia to the top Trinamool Congress party leaders of Bengal. The bribe was channelized via Vinay Mishra, the general secretary of the Abhishek Banerjee-led youth wing of Trinamool Congress.

Mamata Banerjee, on the other hand, has, on daily basis, accused the top leaders of the BJP party of utilizing the central agencies for settling their political scores. Last week, she wrote a letter to the leaders of the opposition party and in that letter, she wrote:

"The BJP wants to make it impossible for non-BJP parties to exercise their constitutional rights and freedoms. It wants to dilute the power of state governments and downgrade them to mere municipalities. It wants to establish a one-party authoritarian rule in India," Miss Banerjee had further written, adding that the time has come for a "united and effective struggle against BJP's attacks on democracy and the Constitution".
