Kamal Hassan, the iconic actor of Tamil Cinema is now waist-deep in politics. We all have seen him many a times on the silver screen and some of his hit movies include Nayakan, Mahanadi, Anbe Sivam, Moodram Pirai. Pushpaka Vimana, Apoorva Sagodharargal and more. Even, he could carve a distinct niche for himself in Bollywood thereby giving us some of the best and most popular movies like Ek Duje Ke Liye, He Ram, Sadma, Mayor Saab, Chachi 420 and more. Apart from being an actor, Kamal Hassan has also proved his excellence as dancer, screenwriter, producer, movie director, lyricist and playback singer. But, now, the actor is so deep in love with politics that he is ready to turn away from acting completely and devote his heart and soul in his career as a politician. His political career has presented him in a different light and there too Mr. Hassan has proved his mettle.

A day prior to the Tamil Nadu elections, Kamal Haasan, the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief and celebrated actor-politician said on Monday that he could drop his career as an actor if it stands in the way of his political career.

Addressing the press and media in the city of Coimbatore, Mr. Kamal Haasan stated that he will, however, be finishing the movies in hand.

"Acting is my profession. I will continue to work in the cinema. But if it poses a hurdle for my political career, I will give it up. I will finish movies that I signed earlier and then think about taking new assignments," said Mr. Hassan.

Actor-politician Kamal Hassan, however, also defended the choice made by him of carrying on with his career as an actor even after making an entry into the realm of politics and cited the instance of MG Ramachandran who too had acted in several movies even after becoming an MLA.

"Many people say this (continuing acting after entering politics) is wrong. Even after becoming MLA, MGR acted in many films. The money he earned from acting helped him carry forward his political journey. I also need money for the same," said he.

MNM is likely to contest 154 out of the 234 seats in the assembly. Amongst the remaining 80 assembly seats, the 2 allies of MNM, namely, Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi (IJK) of TR Paarivendhar and All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) of R Sarathkumar, will be contesting 40 assembly seats each. It will also be contesting a handful of assembly seats in Puducherry.

In the Union Territory of Puducherry and in the state of Tamil Nadu, the Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on the 6th of April and the vote counting is scheduled to take place on the 2nd of May.
