Talent scout for the Mumbai Indians team, Kiran More becomes the first to be infected with coronavirus in the Indian Premier League bubble.
Just days before the Mumbai Indians are set to begin their IPL title defence, the team’s wicket- keeping consultant and talent scout Kiran More has tested positive. This happens to be the first case where a franchise representative has been infected by the virus in a bio- secure bubble of the IPL.
The team said in a statement, “Mr. More is currently asymptomatic and has been isolated. Mumbai Indians and Kiran More have followed all the BCCI health guidelines. The MI medical team will continue to monitor Mr. More’s health and abide by the BCCI protocols.”
Other players including Axar Patel, Nitish Rana and Devdutt Padikkal have also tested positive to Covid-19 during the course of the previous week. However, in their case, unlike the former India wicketkeeper, the test results were out either before they joined their team or in their isolation period before going into the bio- secure bubble.

With the grim Covid-19 situation in the country, the IPL management has not left anything to chance and ensure all necessary precautions taken. They have started testing all members in the bubble on a daily basis. It is also believed that if a situation arises whereby any other member of the Mumbai Indians team tests positive by Wednesday, the IPL hierarchy might be compelled to rework the entire schedule.
The Mumbai Indians team is expected to play Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium three days from now.
There was no immediate response from BCCI secretary Jay Shah, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel and BCCI interim chief executive Hemang Amin about this concern of having a Covid-19 positive case in the IPL bio- bubble.
However, several other franchises have become nervous because of the mounting tensions and some of them said they hoped this would be a singular instance and the “schedule doesn’t need to be altered”.
Kiran More has been associated with the Mumbai Indians entourage which had moved into a hotel in suburban Mumbai to form a bubble before he left for Chennai on March 31. It has been learnt that More cleared all necessary tests in both cities before the results were out.
