Karnataka Records 6570 New Covid-19 Cases: News from the State

The state of Karnataka has logged more than 6,500 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday of which 4422 covid cases were reported from the capital city Bengaluru alone. The daily positivity rate also shot up to 6.04 per cent across the state of Karnataka.

Thursday was the third day in a row when the state of Karnataka reported over 6,000 fresh Covid-19 cases. On Wednesday, they had logged 6,976 cases of covid.

With 36 more cases of death, the death toll is now at 12,757. At the same time there were 2393 recoveries from the deadly covid infection and 1, 74,728 people have been vaccinated against the dreaded virus across the length and breadth of the state.

The state government of Karnataka has also declared an imposition of night curfew in several parts of the state including Bengaluru and Mysuru, for the 10 days starting April 10.

The government of Karnataka has called in retired employees under the age of 62 from the transport department to re-join the services on a contract basis in order to make alternate arrangements as the transport strike in the state enters its third day. These employees will be eligible for an honorarium of Rs 800 for drivers and Rs 700 for conductors, on condition that they clear the fitness test, including the vision test.

As per a recent decision by the state government of Karnataka that has been relayed to Karnataka High Court, the movement of vehicles will continue inside Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park despite a demand to ban traffic in this area by activists. According to Karnataka government officials this decision on their part is in a response to a contempt petition filed by Cubbon Park Walkers Association and includes the opinions of all concerned parties.

A recent initiative pioneered in Karnataka’s Kodagu wherein fences of honeybees had been installed in areas open to human- elephant conflict, turned out to be a success. Various other states in the country are also considering following the same procedure.

The municipal body governing the Karnataka capital, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has singled out 33 areas within the city limits as active containment zones:

Yelahanka zone has the most active containment zones (11) followed by BBMP East (8), Dasarahalli (4), RR Nagar (4), and BBMP South (4) zones. There are two others that are located in the BBMP West zone, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli zones have not yet been brought under the radar of Covid-19 micromanagement zone.
