India Records Highest Single Day Spike in Covid-19 Cases, 1, 68,912

India has beaten all her previous records in the number of daily coronavirus cases, logging 1, 68,912 fresh covid cases in the last 24 hours. The total number of fatalities from covid was 904 taking the total death toll to 170,209.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the country now stands at 13,527,717, making it the second worst hit nation in the world in terms of covid infection. Where active cases are concerned, it is the fourth worst hit country in the whole of the world.

The state of Maharashtra continues to contribute to the maximum covid caseload as the state reported on this Sunday, 63,000 new coronavirus cases in its highest ever single-day covid case surge along with 349 deaths due to the covid infection.

Delhi logged 10,732 covid cases, Mumbai 9,989 covid cases, Pune 12,377 covid cases in the last 24 hours.

The top five states that are hit the hardest by the virus are the states of Maharashtra (3,343,951), Kerala (1,160,204), Karnataka (1,055,040), Tamil Nadu (926,816), and Andhra Pradesh (921,906).

Odisha, on Monday surpassed the 350,000 mark as 1,741 fresh cases were reported. With 2 new fatalities the state's coronavirus death toll got pushed to 1,928, according to a health official.

The state's coronavirus tally now stands at 351,302.

The grim picture posed in the country in view if the coronavirus situation has prompted states like Maharashtra to come up with added infrastructure for fighting the grim picture in the recent timed. They have decided to set up three jumbo field hospitals in Mumbai in the next five-six weeks, city civic chief Iqbal Singh Chahal said on this Monday.

Each of these facilities will have a capacity of 2,000 beds that will include 200 ICU beds and 70 per cent oxygen beds. They will be spread across three different points in the city.

The Supreme Court of India has suspended physical hearing of cases due to the Covid-19 situation. They said judges will conduct proceedings one hour late from their scheduled time from their respective residences on Monday and all the court hearings will be virtual until things improve.
