Amid talks about the launch of the new Google Pixel 5a 5G getting scrapped, due to a chip shortage worldwide, the company clarified that the release will take place towards the end of the year, albeit in only the United States and Japan.

As per a spokesperson from Google, Pixel 5a 5G is not cancelled in its entirety as was earlier believed by many. It will be available later this year in the US and Japan and necessary announcements will be made in a similar fashion as was done last year when the a-series phone was taken out.

This statement is in contradiction to an alleged Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) listing that suggested the Pixel 5a will debut in India as well.

The mid-range model was initially expected to be introduced at this year's Google I/O developer conference along with the rumoured Pixel Buds A.

As per Android Central, the upcoming Google Pixel 5a 5G is likely to be one of 2021’s best cheap Android phones.

Meanwhile, they have also said that engineers at Google will continue to keep the Google Pixel 4a 5G in the centre of their focus area for software testing. It was also reported that this model will be the focus of a large share of the company’s global mid-range smartphone sales and will be stocked up in markets across the world that will not sell the Pixel 5a 5G.

As per Google's device availability page, the Pixel 4a 5G was released in the countries like Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, UK and the US. It has much resemblance with the Pixel 5a 5G including Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip that's in such short supply right now.

Apart from the global brand Google, other Smartphone manufacturers have also been concerned with the global shortage of chip. According to the reports, it has been affecting smartphone manufacturing giant Samsung as well in its production.

There are other rumours from the Google front that they are likely to come up with another model in the same series that will be of a top-end variety. It could be the next in line to the Pixel 5 and could be called the Pixel 6.
