Karnataka’s Bengaluru Urban Contributed to Over 60 Per Cent of the State’s Covid Caseload

Karnataka’s Bengaluru Urban alone contributed to more than 60 per cent of the state’s single day covid cases and deaths due to coronavirus, with 5,500 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 55 deaths.

The state capital has so far reported 4,93,869 infections and 4,910 deaths. There were 57,575 active covid cases.

Mysuru came up as another major hotspot after Bengaluru with 492 covid cases and two deaths. Active caseload in the district went up to 2,266. Meanwhile, 184 others recovered from the infection as the cumulative recoveries since March 2020 rose to 59,065 here.

The state logged an overall figure of 8,778 fresh cases and 67 deaths on Tuesday taking the total tally of Covid-19 cases 10,83,647 and deaths due to it to more than 13,000, as per the state Health Department. The department also added that there were 78,617 active cases in the state which includes 474 in ICUs.

Other places in the state contributing to the total figure include:

  • Tumakuru – 350
  • Kalaburagi – 290
  • Bida – 198
  • Ballari – 168
  • Bengaluru Rural- 163
  • Hassa- 150
  • Dakshina Kannada – 142
  • Dharwad – 132
  •  Mandy- 114
  • Vijayapura - 105

Cases were also reported in Shivamogga, Raichur, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Yadgir, Kolar, Davangere, Chitradurga, Bagalkote and Belagavi.

On Tuesday, the total tests done were 1,21,899 which include 1,11,016 using the RT PCR and other methods. So the total tests done so far to 2.29 crore, as per the Health Department.

Cumulatively, 60.77 lakh vaccinations have been administered so far since the inoculation drive started in the state on January 16.

Several areas in the state are likely to receive rain with thundershowers over the next 24 hours. Some areas including over Coastal Karnataka and North interior Karnataka and at isolated places over South interior Karnataka received scattered rainfall.

 Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers of India D V Sadananda Gowda received his second dose the Covid-19 vaccine in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Two southern states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are at loggerheads over the question of the birthplace of Hanuman as construction work on the Ayodhya Ram temple commences.

While Karnataka claims Hanuman was born on the Anjeyanadri Hill in Kishkinda near Hampi in North Karnataka, Andhra is insistent Anjanadri in the seven hills of Tirumala as his birth place.

A third spot is also being pegged as a possible birthplace on the basis of references in the Ramayana.
