Mumbai Indians Post a Spectacular Win Against Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai: Some moments from the Nail Biting Match

Mumbai Indians beat KKR at a superb game…get the details…

Wednesday, 14th April 2021

Two-time IPL champions the Kolkata Knight Riders got restricted by defending champions Mumbai Indians at 142/7 in yesterday’s match at Chennai. They were chasing a score of 152 posted by the Mumbai team.

Openers from the KKR side Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill added 72 runs giving the team a solid start. However, a collapse in the death overs turned the game on its head and put the advantages on the side of the Mumbai Indians.

Here are the highlights of the match.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma: It was an excellent fightback, won't see a game like this.

Kolkata Knight Riders started losing their ground in an amazing manner as Mumbai Indians spinners Rahul Chahar and Krunal Pandya orchestrated a seemingly improbable victory for the team in Tuesday’s match.

KKR were on course reaching 122 for 4 in the 15th over with a target of 153. However, the last five fetched them only 20 runs as they astonishingly fell short giving defending champions their first victory this season.

Jasprit Bumrah awarded a lifeline to Russell as he dropped a catch but kept the opposite end in a tight spot when they needed just 16 runs from the final 9 deliveries.

The Mumbai team got their first whiff of a comeback with Krunal Pandya’s wicket of Shakib-al-Hasan. Chahar then took it forward by ending his spell with four wickets.

Matters got intense then the KKR were left to get just 15 runs from the last over. It became nail-biting when Andre Russell got out in the final over and Trent Boult took the team home with a 10-run win.

Awarded the Man of the Match title, Rahul Chahar (4-0-27-4) said, “There was pressure when they started well and a spinner had to pull it back. My strength is to turn it at pace. I enjoyed Tripathi's wicket. I deliberately tried to bowl a flipper to Rana knowing it's my last ball of the spell. Rohit gives me a lot of confidence and the management too is very supportive.”

MI pacer Trent Boult (4-0-27-2) said, “Good feeling to close a game like that. Shows the importance of staying in the game. Four tidy overs in the backend and Bumrah played a big role. He was disappointed that he dropped the catch (off Russell) but he was the crucial part in getting us back into the game. These guys (spinners) are very experienced and they kept the dots building. It's never easy to start on wickets like these and we knew it's gonna be tricky and nice to get a couple of wickets in the end.”
