Ravichandran Ashwin has announced that he would "take a break" from the IPL in 2021 due to his family's battle with COVID-19.

After the Delhi Capitals' Super Over victory over SunRisers Hyderabad, Ravichandran Ashwin announced that he is "taking a break" from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Early on Monday, Ashwin took to Twitter to say that his family and extended family are fighting COVID-19. "I'm going to take a break from this year's IPL beginning tomorrow. My family and extended family are fighting #COVID19, and I want to stand by their side during this difficult period," he wrote in his tweet. Before thanking the franchise, he said, "I intend to return to play if things go in the right direction.

In response to Ashwin's tweet, the Delhi Capitals wrote, "Extending our full support to you in these difficult times.

All of us at Delhi Capitals are sending you and your family our best wishes and prayers, they said.

DC scored 159/4 thanks to Prithvi Shaw's half-century and useful knocks from Rishabh Pant and Steve Smith.

Despite a strong start from Jonny Bairstow and a half-century from Kane Williamson, DC appeared to have sealed the victory when Axar Patel struck twice in an over, leaving SRH needing 28 runs off the final two overs. However, debutant J Suchith, who batted at No. 9, hit two boundaries and a six as he and Williamson tied the game and forced a Super Over.

In his four overs, Ashwin gave up 27 runs with no wickets. Williamson and Warner scored only seven runs in the Super Over, which was bowled by Axar. They were supposed to have eight, but Warner was found to be one short.

The Capitals were able to pull off the chase after sending in Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant to face Rashid Khan.
