Chennai Super Kings Clinch Their Fifth Successive Victory This Season Beating Sunrisers Hyderabad by Seven Wickets

Updates on CSK’s 5th Victory

Thursday, 29th April 2021

Chennai Super Kings exhibited some stellar batting performances in yesterday’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Delhi, outplaying them completely and taking their team to victory by seven wickets.

CSK openers Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed brilliant half centuries aiding the CSK side to reach the 172-run target set by Sunrisers Hyderabad with apparent ease by the 19th over.

Power packed hitting by the CSK openers kept the Hyderabad bowlers in dilemma who managed to get only three wickets, all of which were claimed by spinner Rashid Khan alone.

Earlier on, SRH skipper David Warner and Manish Pandey scored fifties and were helped by Kane Williamson (26 off 10 balls) and Kedar Jadhav (12 off 4 balls) take the team to a strong total.

Wednesday’s victory completes CSK’s fifth successive win propelling them right to the reigning spot once again on the points table with 10 points. The position was being held by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) due to their superior net run rate.

SRH has just one win to their credit out of the 6 matches that they played and remain at the bottom-most position on the table with just 2 points.

CSK got off to the best possible start with du Plessis and Gaikwad looking unperturbed from the word go and raising the 50-run stand during the Powerplay overs. They kept the momentum going with some big hits between them and smart running between the wickets, thus keeping pace with the asking rate from the very start.

While Rashid Khan kept the Chennai team on a tight rein (3-36) for a while, the Chennai hitters were relentless against the likes of J Suchith who was smashed for 45 runs in his three overs.

Du Plessis displayed unbounded aggression from the very start of his innings, but Gaikwad came up slowly as a force to reckon with the progression of his innings behind the crease.

By the time the match was at its halfway mark, the Chennai team was left with all of 81 runs to touch victory. After 11 overs, Du Plessis bagged his 19th IPL fifty in just 32 balls.

The 24-year old Gaikwad was taken out after the 13th over by Rashid Khan but the damage was already done for the Hyderabad side by then.
