Maharashtra recorded its lowest number of fresh cases of Covid-19 infections, a drop of 23 per cent with 48,700 people testing positive as compared to 66,191 logged only a day earlier. The number of deaths however, were high at 524.

On April 28, the state reported 985 deaths and 63,309 new cases taking the total tally to 44,73,394.

The Nashik district of Maharashtra saw a rise in their Covid-19 tally to 3,16,207 with a single-day surge of 4,869 cases on Wednesday, according to health officials. The number of people who succumbed to the virus was 37. This took the death toll in the district to 3,419.

Jalna district of Maharashtra, on Wednesday recorded their highest number of deaths due to Covid-19 in a day so far, 22, taking the death toll in the district to 740. They also recorded 816 people who tested positive to the coronavirus test, said the local administration.

Nagpur district reported 7,503 new Covid-19 cases, 102 deaths and 6,935 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

A senior official at a health facility run by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in Maharashtra- Meltron Hospital, a dedicated COVID health centre of the AMC- reported on Wednesday that forty-eight vials of Remdesivir injection have gone missing from there. After the unfortunate incident, the civic body there has decided to issue show cause notices to five persons, including one doctor and three pharmacists, as per the official.

On Monday, the district of Pune saw an impressive pick up in its vaccination drive as they received fresh supplies of vaccine doses over the weekend. The number of beneficiaries on Monday shot up to over 78,000, among the highest so far this month, as opposed to the 10,397 people that were covered on Sunday and 24,157 on Saturday.

Private hospitals will continue to charge for vaccines for the 18-44 age group while vaccination will be free in all government centres.

A committee of ministers and health officials are to discuss a plan whereby considerations will be made for making further age bifurcation within the 18-44 age group. They will also consider keeping the older age category a priority in order to ensure seamless vaccination.

The state of Maharashtra is also entering talks with Sputnik, Zydus cadila and Johnson and Johnson.
