As the Covid-19 pandemic scenario in the country turns bleak by the day, India recorded 3, 68,147 fresh cases of covid-19 along with 3,417 deaths due to covid in a single day.

The state of Punjab has logged 6,798 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours along with 6,016 discharges, and 157 covid-triggered deaths.

The state of Chhattisgarh has reported 15,274 new COVD-19 cases, 1,088 recoveries and 266 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases in the state now is 1, 20,977 and death toll is 9,275.

In the state of Madhya Pradesh a new concept in the inoculation drive has been introduced by the state Tourism Corporation on May 1, whereby Ashoka Hotel in the city of Bhopal has started a drive-in vaccination centre.

MP Chief Minister has also announced that they will begin administering vaccines to those between the age of 18 and 44 from May 5 with 1.5 lakh shots every day. It will also be given free of cost to all citizens as per the state government.

In a letter to the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel has asked for aid for SMEs hit hard by the lockdown in the form of government grants. He has also requested for moratorium period of at least 3 months for payment of principal and interest installments against loans.

Additional Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Piyush Goyal has clarified during a routine briefing on steps taken by the government in the battle against COVID-19, that the government is undertaking multiple steps to ensure a boost in the production and transportation of oxygen to the various hospitals.

For the first time since the middle of March, the business capital of India, Mumbai has reported the lowest numbers in their Covid-19 cases per day with 2,662 infections logged on Monday. The number of deaths due to the virus was 78 that day. They also saw a dip in the number of Covid-19 tests that were conducted in the city in the last 24 hours. With 23,542 Covid-19 tests done in 24 hours, they have recorded a total of 55, 13,783 samples that have been examined so far. The state’s overall tally also fell below the 50,000 mark.
