India’s fame as a variegated and diverse nation isn’t limited to cultures alone but is also true of the country’s landscapes. High mountains, scenic lakes, undulating deserts ad dunes, emerald meadows, and lots more stand for the diverse landscape of the country. Far downward in Southern India, Mother Nature has bestowed the land with several fascinating lakes where one can indulge in activities such as fishing, boating, and more.

Karanji Lake, Karnataka

This magnificent lake in the Mysore city of Karnataka is a sprawling, clear water body located a distance of only 2 km from the royal palace of Mysore. The lake comes with a park around it. It is a beautiful butterfly park and the lakeside indeed turns out to be an idyllic oasis in the heart of the city. The lakeside also offers an interesting walk-through aviary, the biggest one in the whole of India, where you can spot over 5 dozens rare bird species. Some of the birds you get to see here include spoonbills, pelicans, painted storks, darters, and the like.

 

Kolleru Lake, Andhra Pradesh

The Kolleru Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the whole of the country and is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The lake is positioned amid the deltas of River Godavari and River Krishna and has lots of greenery around. A vast array of migratory birds, nearly 2 million in number, flock at the lake and lakeside especially in the winter months, thus making the place an important tourist attraction.

Kodaikanal Lake, Tamil Nadu

This star-shaped glittering lake is perched in the midst of the verdant green hill slopes. The lake covers an area of more than 60 acres and tourists enjoy activities like boating at the lake. The lakeside is ideal for a family outing and one can even indulge in a horse ride along the banks of the lake.

 

Vembanad Lake, Kerala

The picture-perfect Vembanad Lake is the longest lake in the whole of India. Spending a couple of languid days in one of the houseboats at the lake is a not-to-be-missed experience for any tourist who visits the place. Quite intriguingly, this particular lake comes to be known by several names across the state. Watching the sun going down at the lakeside is a soul-exhilarating experience indeed.
