Lewis Hamilton hopes to have a "clear vision" of his future with Mercedes in 2022 by the mid-summer break after "my winter" was destroyed by rumours about his deal. On Sunday, Hamilton reminded the paddock of his worth by winning his 98th career race and fifth in a row at the Spanish Grand Prix.
"From a contract standpoint, we'd never want to be in the situation we were in January-February; it ruined my whole winter," Hamilton said.
"I'm sure it didn't help Toto (Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff) relax and enjoy himself. We didn't seem to get much of a break."
In February, Hamilton received a one-year extension until the end of 2021.
"You don't have to rush something," he said, "but I think we need to be sensible and start conversations."

"They're really complex; it's never a super simple operation, but hopefully we'll be able to get started as soon as possible, as long as it doesn't interfere with the job we still have 19 races to go.
"However, getting everything in place before the break and having a good view of the future will be ideal."
