India has been witnessing a downward trend in the number of daily coronavirus cases as the country records 153,485 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest single day count in 48 days or since April 13, 2021. Total number of Covid-19 cases in India so far thus stands at 28,046,957.
The number of deaths due to Covid-19 continued to be remain above the 3-000 mark with 3,129 deaths, taking the death toll to 329,127.
The states that account for the maximum caseload are Maharashtra (5,731,815), Karnataka (2,587,827), Kerala (2,514,279), Tamil Nadu (2,068,580), Uttar Pradesh (1,690,060), and Andhra Pradesh (1,685,142).
On a global level, India continues to the second worst hit nation by Covid-19 after the United States which recorded a total of 34,022,118 cases, followed by Brazil, France, and Turkey.
In the past week however, the highest number of fresh cases of the infection has been logged by India with Brazil (424,161) and Argentina (217,580) close at its heels.
The recovery rate in India has gone up to 91.60%, according to the Union Helath Ministry.
Authorities at the Darbhanga Medical College reported the deaths of four children brought to them in serious condition. They were “experiencing breathlessness & had symptoms like pneumonia” and one of them had tested positive for covid-19.
Yet another variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Vietnam. This new strain is said to be a hybrid of the strains first found in India and the UK and are more easily transmittable than other versions of the virus, as per the Vietnamese Health Minister.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced financial aid of Rs 10 lakh to family members of journalists who have succumbed to Covid-19.
In England, a number of ethnic groups including Indian and Chinese ones, have joined hands and pledged an amount of $1 million as donation to India for its fight against Covid-19.
The ongoing lockdown in Odisha has been further extended until June 17 to curb rapid spread of the coronavirus infection. While grocery stores and other shops will be allowed to be kept open during the weekdays, during the weekends everything will have to remain shut.
