Today Ravneet Singh, Vice Admiral, holder of two renowned medals- the Nausena Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, took charges as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff. As per the Defence Ministry Singh became a part of the Indian Navy on the 1st of July, 1983 and he was specialized in the domain of aviation. He is a highly skilled flying instructor who has Master Green instrument rating to his credit.
The air planes he has flown so far include Kiran HJT 16, HT-2, TS 11 Iskra, Harrier Gr 3, Hunter, Chetak, Hawk, Gazelle, Jet Provost and the Mig 29 KUB.
The Admiral had been involved in varied difficult Command, Diplomatic and Staff assignment in the course of his prominent naval career and also has had an extensive range of experience onboard across diverse platforms.
He has also commanded multiple frontline ships and multiple Naval Air Squadrons including the INAS 300, INS Himgiri, INAS 551B, INS Ranvir, INS Ranvijay and INS Hansa. Furthermore, he was chosen as
Indian Defence Advisor for Seychelles, Tanzania and Kenya from the year 2005 to the year 2008. After being promoted to the Flag rank, he got involved in major assignments such as the Assistant Controller Carrier Project, the project of Assistant Controller Warship Production and Acquisition at IHQ MoD(N), Mumbai’s Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet project and the project of Flag Officer Goa Area/Flag Officer Naval Aviation; Goa, informed the ministry.

In the position of the Vice Admiral, Singh has handled the hiring of the Chief of Staff at the Headquarters of the Western Naval Command; Mumbai, Chief of Personnel at IHQ MoD (N), and the Director General Project Seabird.
He has also undergone myriad courses both in India as well as abroad, including Project management Programme; IIM Ahmedabad, flying instructor courses; Tambaram, Harrier Conversion Courses at the Royal Air Force Base and Staff Courses at the DSSC Wellington,
He is the receiver of a commendation award which was awarded to him in 2000 by the Chief of the Naval Staff. Also, he has received the Nausena Medal (Gallantry) in the year 2004 and the AVSM in the year 2017.
Singh has taken charges from Vice Admiral MS Pawar who is a holder of the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), AVSM and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM). Pawar retired on May 31st and Singh took his place.
