A host of features will be brought in by Android 12 that will include the ability to opt-out of personalized ads in Android applications along with several other privacy-friendly features.
Until now, Google Play services have made an advertising ID available to third-party developers to monetize their applications. By virtue of this, users can reset and generate a new identifier at any point in time as well as have the option to "Opt out of Ads Personalization." This instructs "apps not to use your advertising ID to build profiles or show you personalized ads."
However, as per the updated document, Google is now planning to do away with the advertising ID when a user chooses to come out of personalization using advertising ID in Android Settings.
According to the tech giant's update on its support page, "Any attempts to access the identifier will receive a string of zeros instead of the identifier. To help developers and ad/analytics service providers with compliance efforts and respect user choice, they will be able to receive notifications for opt-out preferences."

This essentially entails, with the rollout of Android 12, a user who opts out of having an advertising ID will cease to receive personalized ads which are based on their preferences. his, however, does not give them the ability to cut off all the ads, though they will most certainly be able to bring down the number.
According to Google, the feature will not be made available to all Android users at once but will be rolled out in a phased manner. It will first arrive on Android devices running Android 12 by the end of this year and by next year it will be rolled out to other devices.
The company's post also stated, "This Google Play services phased rollout will affect apps running on Android 12 devices starting late 2021 and will expand to affect apps running on devices that support Google Play in early 2022. In July, we will provide an alternate solution to support essential use cases such as analytics and fraud prevention."
