Tuesday, 8th June 2021

Rampant lockdown due to Covid-19 in the state of Maharashtra is likely to end and the state has chalked out a five-level plan for the same. The plan has already come into force from this Monday. While the state will observe ‘lockdown’ until June 15th, a couple of relaxations have been allowed in certain districts on the basis of the covid positivity rate and the occupancy of beds with oxygen support. According to an order from the state government, the Public Health Department must provide a declaration on the case positivity rate as well as on the oxygenated beds occupation for the various districts of the state on every Thursday. Based on the info provided by the Public Health Department, the authority entrusted with the responsibility of district management will be implementing the level and extent of curbs in their respective administrative units.

“The local administration can take a call on easing or tightening restrictions based on the situation. It must decide on easing the norms based on the criteria and the five levels set under Break The Chain,” said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray yesterday.

CM Uddhav Thackeray stated that the pandemic’s intensity varies across the state’s length and breadth. Hence, those 5 unlocking levels were actually targeted towards breaking the chain of transmission and make sure that all social and economic pursuits were executed in an organized and disciplined manner.

  • Districts of the state with covid case positivity rate of about 5 percent or below and hospital bed occupancy of 25 percent or below will be categorized under under Level 1.
  • Districts with covid case positivity rate of 5 percent and hospital bed occupancy ranging between 25 percent and 40 percent will be categorized under Level 2. In those districts CrPC Section 144 is likely to be enforced. Districts like Thane, Navi Mumbai, Amravati, Ahmednagar, Hingoli will fall into the category of Level 2.
  • Districts with covid case positivity rate ranging between 5 percent and 10 percent and hospital bed occupancy below 40-60 percent will fall under Level 3 with the necessary guidelines in place in order to “minimize movement post-5 PM on weekdays and weekends”. Mumbai city, Akola, Palghar, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Solapur, Satara, Sindhudurg, Osmanabad, Beed and Dombivali Municipal Zone will fall under Level 3.
  • The areas of the state with covid case positivity rate of about 10 to 20 percent and oxygenated bed occupancy of 60-75 percent will fall under the category of Level 4.
  • The areas with the covid case positivity rate of about 20 percent and above that and oxygen bed occupancy rate of 75 percent or higher will fall under the category of Level 5 for the unlocking process.
