With India recording 70,421 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the total count now stands at 2, 95, 10,410. This was the lowest that the country logged in its daily count of infections since April 1 and under a lakh for the seventh consecutive day. There were 3,921 fatalities due to Covid-19 recorded on Monday as per data from the Union Health Ministry.

The total number of cases logged the day before was 80,834, the lowest in 71 days. As on June 14, 2021, the total number of discharges were 28,162,947, death toll was 3,74,305, total active cases 9,73,158 and total vaccination was 25,48,49,301.

According to AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, India's death toll from Covid-19 is “nowhere close to the real extent of damage”. Owaisi, on Sunday took to social media where he accused the Central government of keeping the actual figures under wraps.

He wrote on Twitter, “This piece reiterates what I've been saying: India's official death toll from #covid is nowhere close to real extent of damage. How long will govt botch numbers to make itself feel good? Families who have lost a dear one deserve to be counted. This piece also quotes@YRDeshmukh.”

Thane district of Maharashtra recorded 409 fresh coronavirus positive cases taking the total count in the area to 5,25,137, according to an official statement on Monday. The death toll rose to 10,276 with 26 fatalities reported on Sunday. The mortality rate is 1.95 per cent.

In neighbouring Palghar district, the Covid-19 case count has gone up to 1,13,593 while the death toll is 2,404. Details of patients under treatment and those recovered were not available.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research, 37,96,24,626 samples were tested for Covid-19 up to June 13, 2021. Of these, 14,92,152 samples were tested on Sunday.

The Central government has started planning and gearing up for a potential third wave of Covid-19. They are helping quickly ramp up state heath infrastructure by setting up setting up 50 innovative modular hospitals across the country in the next two-three months. These hospitals will be built near an existing hospital building as an extension of operational infrastructure.
