Covid-19 vaccine from Novavax is over 90% effective and functional, including against the coronavirus variants too, said the maker of the vaccine on Monday after an extensive study from the US. The Novavax jab "demonstrated 100% protection against moderate and severe disease, 90.4% efficacy overall," stated the company through a statement, further adding that "the study enrolled 29,960 participants across 119 sites in the U.S. and Mexico to evaluate efficacy, safety and immunogenicity."

The Maryland-headquartered vaccine-making company informed that it has the intention to apply for a regulatory approval by 2021’s third quarter.

After that, the company informed, it would probably be on the path to create 100 million vaccination doses each month by the third quarter’ end and as many as 150 million vaccine doses each month by this year’s end.

"Today, Novavax is one step closer to addressing the critical and persistent global public health need for additional COVID-19 vaccines," stated Stanley C. Erck, the Chief executive and President of Novavax.

"Novavax continues to work with a sense of urgency to complete our regulatory submissions and deliver this vaccine, built on a well understood and proven platform, to a world that is still in great need of vaccines."

The rate of getting people vaccinated in the poorest nations of the world is significantly lagging behind the distinguished Group of Seven highly industrialized and advanced powers and the other wealthy states of the nation – with regard to vaccine doses given out so far, the stark imbalance evident between the notable G7 and the low-income countries of the globe, as cited by the renowned World Bank, is actually 73 is to 1.

Unlike a couple of rival jabs, Novavax’s covid-19 vaccine – formally referred to as NVX-CoV2373 – mustn’t be stored at the ultra-low temperatures.

The company stated that it was "stored and stable at 2°- 8°C, allowing the use of existing vaccine supply chain channels for its distribution."

Theoretically at least, this implies the vaccine shots for covid should be easily and more flexibly transported as well as administered in the countries that come with poor or less developed health set-ups.
