With 1,14,460 new cases on Covid-19 infections recorded in the past 24 hours, India logged its lowest daily number of cases in 60 days. The number of fatalities was the lowest in 42 days with 2,677 deaths recorded in a single day.

The last few weeks saw the country record less than 2 lakh cases a day, a significant reduction as compared to the past couple of months.

Total number of patients recovered from the disease and discharged from hospitals across the nation is 189,232 in the last 24 hours as per data from the Health Ministry, while the total caseload in the country shot up to 2,88,09,339 after the latest figures were released.

Death toll climbed up to 3,46,759 and the daily positivity rate further went down to 5.62 percent. Active Covid-19 cases also dropped to 14,77,799, and now accounts for only 5.13 percent of total cases.

With the coronavirus situation in the country slowly ameliorating, states such as Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Maharashtra are taking steps towards a measured unlock.

As daily cases came down to 414 in Delhi, the lowest in the past two months, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced unlock 2.0 in Delhi. In this second phase of unlocking, an odd-even system will be in place between 10 am and 8 pm daily. Delhi Metro services will also commence although at 50 percent capacity. Teams of police and district administration alike are getting ready to deploy forces across the city that will enforce Covid-appropriate behaviour.

Meanwhile AIIMS Patna and AIIMS Delhi are to begin screening for clinical trials of Covaxin on children starting tomorrow.

For domestic travel, passengers may not be required to furnish RT-PCR report if they are vaccinated. Talks are still underway between government officials.
