Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the seventh International Day of Yoga, impressed on the theme 'Yoga for wellness'
In the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, the prime minister stressed on the core aspect of yoga that became a source of inner strength for people inculcating faith in them, an element of utmost importance during these times. He said, "Yoga shows us the road from stress to strength and from negativity to creativity."
Clad in traditional orange, PM Modi also said in his address, "When Covid emerged, no country was prepared. At this time yoga became a source of inner strength. Yoga helps in self-discipline, it inculcated faith in people that they could fight this virus. Frontline warriors told me that they made yoga a tool in fighting the virus."
In the country's Endeavour to breathe life into its motto of "One World, One Health", the PM said India will join hands with the World Health Organization and institute the M-Yoga application. This will hold multiple videos on yoga training that are based on Common Yoga Protocol and will be available in different languages of the world.
The prime minister said several countries across the globe are conducting studies on the goodness of yoga and its innumerable benefits on our body, mind and immune system. He added, it has become a holistic way of life and is also seen being done at the beginning of online classes, especially Pranayama, fostering its benefits even in young children and preparing their bodies to deal with the virus.
Yoga also leads one from the road of "stress to strength" and from "negativity to creativity", said the leader in the televised address to the country. He underlined the possibility of finding "infinite" solutions within us to the innumerable problems we are faced with today, through yoga.
PM Modi said, "For most of the countries of the world, Yoga Day is not their age-old cultural festival. In this difficult time, people in so much trouble could forget it, ignore it. But on the contrary, people's enthusiasm for yoga has increased, love for yoga has increased."
June 21 was instituted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 as the World Yoga Day and was backed by a record 177 countries.
