Members of the cricket community took to social media to congratulate New Zealand for winning the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC). Sachin Tendulkar led the way. New Zealand beat India by eight wickets at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Wednesday, led by Kane Williamson. "Congratulations on winning the #WTC21, @BLACKCAPS." You had the better team. The performance of #TeamIndia will be disappointing. As I already stated, the first ten overs are vital, and the Indian team lost both Kohli and Pujara in the space of ten balls, putting a lot of strain on the team," Tendulkar tweeted.
Virender Sehwag, the 2011 ODI World Cup winner, hailed Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor's match-winning partnership. "Missed being 50-over champions 2 years ago in the same country, but winning the inaugural World test Championship in style, many congratulations @BLACKCAPS, absolutely worthy champions. Happy for Kane Williamson and @Ross Taylor #INDvNZ", he tweeted.
Brendon McCullum, a former New Zealand captain, also took to twitter to wish Kane Williamson and his squad well. "To Kane and all of the boys, we love you", he wrote on Twitter.
New Zealand's victory in the WTC Final was also praised by Test cricket icon VVS Laxman. He tweeted, "Congratulations @BLACKCAPS on being deserving champions. NZ bowlers were terrific, Williamson & Taylor brought in their experience to finish the job. Indian batsman will rue not playing to potential in 2nd innings, but India can be proud of the way they played the WTC cycle #IndvNZ".
India set a target of 139 runs, which New Zealand chased down in 45.5 overs, winning by eight wickets. Williamson hit eight fours in his 52-run innings off 89 balls. Meanwhile, Taylor smashed an unbeaten 47 off 100 balls, including the winning boundary.
