Thursday, 24th June 2021

The World Test Championship Final between India and New Zealand being played in Southampton, England, will enter into the sixth or reserve day as two days of the match got washed out due to persistent rain. Other days were also impacted as a result of rain and bad light here.

Referring to June 23 which was set aside as a reserve day in case of any time lost in the course of the 5-day play, in a recent media release, the International Cricket Council said, "It has been confirmed that the Reserve Day is to be utilised at the ICC World Test Championship 2021 Final".

The ICC also said, "The decision to allocate an additional day was made prior to the start of the ICC World Test Championship, in 2018, and that was reiterated in the publication of the official playing conditions on 28 May this year."

They later added, "The maximum duration for the Reserve Day is a minimum of 330 minutes (or 83 overs, whichever is later), plus the last hour, if play is suspended for any reason other than normal intervals prior to the start of the final hour, then playing time shall be extended by the total time lost, up to the amount of extra time available."

It has been announced that a total of 98 overs will be allowed and match will commence on the 'final' day of the WTC final at 10:30 am BST at The Ageas Bowl. The last hour of play on that day will be indicated by the umpires.

It has also come to light that organisers are selling tickets for the play on reserve day at a slashed rate while preference is being given to those spectators who had already bought tickets for the washed out days- Day 1 and Day 4.

ICC also cleared that all Covid-19 protocols will be in place. In case of a draw at the end of the stipulated time, both teams will be declared winners.

After day 5 of the match, India is leading the Kiwis by 32 runs. They managed to get the new Zealanders all out at 249 runs and closed the day at 64/2.
